2. Stipe regains the title from Cormier (8/2019)
3. Stipe defends against Cormier (8/2020)
4. Ngannou wins the title from Stipe (3/2021)
5. Ngannou defends against Gane (1/2022)
6. Jones defeats Gane for the vacant title (3/2023)

Basically once a year. And looks like only once this year a well.

And yet some people couldn’t wait for Ngannou to beat Stipe. Because he would be an “active” champion.

Despite the fact he hadn’t been really active since 2018. He fought twice in 2019. Once in 2020. Once in 2021, winning the title. And once in 2022, defending the title. Then sat out injured for the rest of his contract.
