If England was serious about cleaning up this mess, they would be hitting all the known locations these groups of punks hang out in and there would be a police presence hanging over their shoulder watching their every move.

Police give chavs a hard time, but that still doesn't solve anything.

This isn't a particular dress fashion...this is a big social problem.

You should read up on England's low income children and see where the problem really is.

Most low income children live in council estates, from a 1 parent home, can never attend a good school, will never graduate highschool and their labor jobs are being taken by immigrants.

You will solve nothing by putting them in jail. They'll just go right back to it when they get out.

I realize that England's poor are turning into these chavs. I get that.

From my point of view ( I know its flawed because I don't know English politics and social atmosphere ) it seems that there isn't enough being done to combat this epidemic. Which is the fault of the politicians and the people.

If I was PM or whatever position that provided me with enough power to do something about it even on a local level, I would institute "profiling" (don't start with the racial BS) and my police force would be out in full force cracking down on this problem.

I see 10 kids in the same location for HOURS on end, I investigate. I shake them down, I find drugs and weapons (which most carry), I book them.

If the country doesn't fight back, they will be overrun and it looks like its happening.

Using economic and social excuses for this behavior should not be excepted. England needs to get off their collective arse.

For a Libertarian, you sure think a lot like a Liberal.

Jail doesn't solve anything.

These kids still wont have great parents, they wont have an interest in school, and they wont have more jobs waiting for them after they get out of prison.

The fact is, low income white families have been ignored for a long time and will continue to be.

It's called survival of the fittest. Low income immigrant families often do well after 20 years.

From facts anf figures, low income white families will only do worse.

So what is the alternative? Massive crackdown, mass bookings, mass jailings.

All that accomplishes is turning soft juvenile criminals into hardened adult criminals. Prisons are like universities for chavs and their ilk. A lot of good the free-world's largest prison industry has done for the US. Not only is it ungodly expensive, it's also ineffective. If it worked the cost might be justifiable, but it isn't. As long as these kids are returned to the same shitty conditions when they get out, jail doesn't teach them anything except how to be more effective criminals.

Britain has seen this type of thing before. Punks, soccer Hooligans and Skinheads in the 80s, Mods and Rockers in the 60s...

These subcultures ALWAYS pop up when the economy is in turmoil, and they subside when things get better. Building more prisons or increased sentances are not the answer, finding some way to provide better economic conditions for the underclass is. How you go about that is a different question, although my answer would be "anything but more welfare". Britain needs new innovative industries more than anything.
