Does Andre Ward sound like a hater? "Canelo's Refusal to Fight Benavidez Would Taint His Legacy"

Floyd at Canelo s age was no longer fighting the cream of the cop imo. He never went to 154/160

Historically speaking fighters retire at or around 33; dude has a lot of miles on those tires.
Yeah once a fighter reaches 33 or 34 years old, they're stepping out of their physical prime years. Fighters decline at different rates. For heavyweight it just isn't as obvious. At the smaller weights it is.

There's literally never been a star level P4P quality fighter this wasn't said about. It was said about Floyd, it was said about Ray and so on. All of those guys eventually fought the guys they were supposed to fight.

Canelo is 33, Floyd was champ at 154 at 35 beating Cotto...

Canelo is a 33 that turned pro in 2005…. With 62 fights.

You can say he fought bums on his come up but those are still fight miles being added along with the training camps that take a toll.

He also started fighting world class competition at 20. He fought Floyd at 22/23.

Canelo is also fighting way out of his original weight class.

Being 5-7 at 168 is a lot different than Floyd being 5-7 at 147.

Canelo is slick but being that short and fighting guys who are 6-1-6-3 with reach means once your speed starts to dip it’s much harder to fight these guys. It’s going to be a lot easier for the taller guys to keep Canelo on the end of their jab especially as he ages.

I love Floyd but even if Floyd was Canelos weight his style wouldn’t do that well against guys that had height and reach. He wouldn’t be able to just pot shot people and win each round by a few punches like he did at his career end

First people say "he never fought benavidez! This is a black mark on his legacy!"
Then they fight, and people say "he never fought Benavidez in his prime! This is a black mark on his legacy!"

Replace benavidez with fighter X and Canelo with fighter Y and its been said a thousand times before. I don't think anybody will be questioning canelo's legacy in 15 years.

Ward is a hater, that being said Canelo's keeping the belts and not fighting Benavidez in 2024 wouldn't look good.

Andre Ward gets on my nerves, possibly the most overated fighter ive ever seen, his record is flimsy and outside of Froch and Kessler, very few notable wins

-It honestly only really matters if Benavidez becomes like a P4P goat. Then this could easily be a valid argument for Benavidez surpassing Canelo at some point. For whatever reason a world class still on top Canelo wants no parts of David Benavidez.

-Im not really saying Ward is right or wrong. But just like he has his logic and reasoning for not calling out GGG & Canelo when those fights made sense, he should kind of allow Canelo that same call. It seems a bit hypocritical for him not to want to call out smaller killers close in weight.
Ward had little to no interesting comp post Super 6 besides Kov.

Then say size doesn't matter. That Canelo should have to fight another LHW when he already got beat pretty badly by one.

I feel for Ward because he truly is one of the greatest talents we have seen in this sport.
His undefeated streak, reign, & retirement was always vastly overshadowed by Floyd's.

Then when he kind of gets some recognition as a GOAT it just gets overshadowed by Canelo mania. However, this was the career path Ward choose. He had some roads to where he could made his legacy a bit more noticeable but he chose to stay in his lane.

I agree.
Got planted by Kovalevs palm and shouldve lost that fight.

i just dont understand the love for him, he was a very good fighter, but man , he didnt fight for long times and doesnt really have a giant win on his resume, his style was also terrible to watch IMO, like a cross between Winky Wright and Hopkins, just an awkward fucker

Nobody will ever complain Canelo didn’t fight a prime Benavidez since Benavidez is 6 years younger than Canelo, lol.

I’ve never seen anyone justify Canelo not fighting Benavidez with facts and reasoning, it’s always with strawmen and imaginary scenarios.

In 15 years, Canelo’s dicksuckers will be saying “he was a champion for X amount of years and defended his belts X amount of time”. The only way he could do that was by avoiding the guy who could beat him. Great legacy, indeed.

Well Cuban23 hates Canelo, so if you're calling Ward a hater, hes probably a hater.
I don't hate Canelo. Never have. I was the only one on here actually holding his feet to the fire and being objective.
