Jose Aldo is very overrated

I disagree
It's not like he had 50 pro fights or been in many back and forward wars

Jose definitely benefitted from the juice imo. Conor was right about that

Jose Aldo started training in MMA at 17 years old in a gym known for hard sparring, by the time USADA came around he had been training and taking damage for 11 years already most of which was against high level competition. Most MMA fighters don't fight high level competition for that long without declining and most fighters start declining around 30 fights as well if not less depending on injuries and level of competition. Conor for example had a significantly shorter prime than that.

I'm tired of constantly seeing him being included in the GOAT lists. The number of times he has been defeated in the UFC matches the number of times he has finished his opponents (if you consider KZ's injury as a finished match). He faced humiliation multiple times during his prime years in his early 30s. He's not even top 2 FW, Volk and Max are already ahead of him in this division. It annoys me how people treat him as if he is a god, especially here in Brazil. Additionally, he is a sore loser. He kept insisting on a rematch with Conor McGregor but declined it when RDA got injured. Conor was kind enough to offer him a boxing match recently, but Aldo responded rudely. Here in Brazil, Popó, a well-known boxer even proposed a friendly fight with him, only to be rudely rejected by Aldo. Personally, I don't have any positive feelings towards him.

Aldo’s run at BW disqualifies your entire post.

No it doesn't. Just cause someone isn't in their prime anymore doesn't mean they all of a sudden suck. Watch MMA longer and you'll see that some guys decline slowly others fast. Besides the fact that he had to drastically make changes to his fighting style(became way more of a boxer and had to use grappling offensively) and change weight classes to stay competitive suggest that he's not as good as he once was.

Dude he had 20 or a little more fights and many where early stoppages

It's not like fucking Floyd mayweather or canelo who boxed as kids and had way more wear and tear, plus many more fights. Why didn't they decline so bad? Or Manny Pacquiao?

Usyk had over 350 amateur fights and still fights at a ridiculous level despite being way older and many more fights

I’ve seen some pretty bad takes on sherdog but OP belongs in a seperate category on his own. <45>

UFC Featherweight was just WEC so you can count his WEC fights as well. For me I don't put much stock in what happens after a fighter falls off a bit. One thing to note is he stipped throwing leg kicks so at the very least he wasn't able to fight the same way. Also even if he didn't get too old, the game is always evolving. When he was on his big winstreak his style was enough to handle anyone he encountered. Just because people came around with the skills to beat him doesn't mean we should discount what he did over the course of 10 years.

I think Aldo was a bit lucky not to have had to face any really good strikers before Conor but hey it's not his fault there weren't any around. Also if they were around before when Aldo was younger maybe Aldo could have adapted his game, his style worked great for what he had to face. Good striking and great takedown defense.

McGregor offered him a rematch at LW on short notice. Context. And who gives a shit if decides to take boxing matches. It has zero bearing on his MMA career.

He had 27 fights, had been taking damage for 11 years and trained at a gym known for hard sparring. Don't compare MMA and boxing, they are totally different sports and when you fight lower level competition you can fight more people without taking as much damage. Besides boxing is a joke when it comes to high level fighters regularly fighting other high level fighters, it doesn't happen nearly as frequently as it does in MMA cause Boxing is all about protecting the 0 and padding records. Fighting a bunch of bums doesn't take as much out of you as constantly fighting top 5 and top 10 guys like Aldo did for like a 10 year period.

Sometimes he is overrated. But in this stupid thread he is underrated.

So overall, Jose Aldo is very rated.

Floyd, manny and canelo did not fight a bunch of bums

Floyd did for 15 fights in the first 2 years, but after that it was champion after champion

Look at the amount of killers Pacquiao fought and many bigger

Morales x3
Barerra x2
Marquez x4
Margarito
Cotto
Floyd
Hatton
Mosley

Fought and beat thurman for a world title over 40 years old

Jose is 37 and been washed up for years

You shit on boxing, but Aldo only wishes he had half the career of someone like Floyd or Manny

He's not even in the fucking ballpark and got humiliated in 12 seconds in his biggest fight

Percentage wise of their total fights, they absolutely did. Look at Aldo's record and look at theirs. Aldo has a much higher percentage of ranked wins. This is why comparing MMA to boxing is stupid and you should stop doing it. If they fought a similar percentage of ranked fighters they would have lost more fights too.

Paciao has 72 fights on his pro record and of those you can name 14 fights where he fought top boxers, that's a very low percentage of high level boxers compared to Aldo's level of competition.

Bollocks

Fuck percentage
These guys fought more title fights than Aldo had wins.

Boxing also had a much deeper talent pool than Ricardo lamas and faber

Haters gonna hate I suppose... Why even argue.

lol, so competition level is irrelevant? You should just stop digging the hole you're in now. Paciao has 72 fights on his pro record and you could only list 14 fights where he fought other top pro boxers, that's a heavily padded record compared to Aldo's who fought top 10 guys for like a 10 year period straight most of which being top 5.

Boxing pads the shit out of everyone's record, MMA does not, stop comparing apples to oranges.

Aldo fell victim to extreme weight cutting. When he was in his prime he was a big FW but things changed and suddenly he was fighting people way bigger than him. Him going to Bantamweight is proof if he started MMA today he would start out as FW on the regional scene but then go to BW once he comes to the UFC. He was great but i think that is what happened.
