Ultimate Fighting Championship flyweight king Alexandre Pantoja has a date on the books with Brandon Royval at UFC 296 on Dec. 16, but he may have bigger fish to fry.

If successful in December, Pantoja (26-5) could move up a weight class to challenge Sean O'Malley for the UFC bantamweight title. In a recent callout, Pantoja accused “Sugar” of not following through with promises, among other alleged discretions related to former training sessions the pair shared.

O’Malley has since claimed that he finished “The Cannibal” in the very first round but chose to go for a second and third round, where he admits to getting choked out. Pantoja has now shared more details of his version of events, which continues to vary starkly from O’Malley’s.

According to the UFC flyweight champ, he sparred with O’Malley on two separate occasions. Pantoja claims he had landed in Arizona after 50 hours of travel and had jet lag when he first trained with the 135-pound king. While he didn’t detail how the first session played out, the Brazilian claims he wasn’t at his best that day and returned a week later.

Unlike their first encounter, Pantoja sparred only with O’Malley this time out, allegedly battering “Sugar” to a point where he wanted to quit but was persuaded back into action by Henry Cejudo. The 33-year-old recently elaborated on the controversy with Sherdog Brazilian correspondent Marcelo Alonso:

Is the poll about who would win?

Sean O'Malley would murder Pantoja.

His leg gave out ans he got finished. Where is wilt in that

Yan hit him hard and he kept coming

Now he's champ

But I had Yan winning that
His leg gave out and he turtled up. He just kind of accepted his fate.

Yan hit him hard, but never lit him up. There's a difference.

Should O'Malley want to get banged up while he's not getting paid? I mean congratulations Pantoja in being a training room champ. Too bad that doesn't pay the bills.

You think he could stood up ? Why would he lie there to get his face elbowed in.

I think his leg was shot.

Pantoja is a hard-working, hard-fighting guy.

Apparently, he is also a douche.

A lot of fighters are moving away from hard sparring

And recognize that every blow to the head takes a small chunk off their career.

All respect to the warriors but yeah. That's the wise way to do it if you want to still have a functioning brain in 10 years.

I think I've seen amateur fighters completely blow their hamstring and still put forth more effort to pull off the win. I'm not hating on the guy. He's talented. He just happens to be a very talented frontrunner who almost no one has managed to put in adversity.

That was one of the greatest post-game interviews ever. Still a classic over 17 years later.

I've seen guys who aren't amateur but pros and Champs in thete premier org. One of them is Seany Omiliey

He flopped to the ground, I think he couldn't even stand

How do95you

Stick to amateur crowds. Sean is UFC champ

Of course Omalley can knock him out, being a weight class higher and outside of a fight being 15 pounds heavier.
But once the cannibal is close, he gets taken down and choked out.

Pantoja has an uncomfortable style for OMalley

It wouldn't surprise me. The only time we saw Sean in real trouble, he wilted and just threw a fit about the stoppage after.
That being said, it's a sparring session. Don't be a cunt and brag over it.

he was in a lot of trouble in the Yan fight

Honestly him making an excuse for the session didn’t go his way and acting like it’s the second one that has any relevance makes me just have no interest in this fight more so than I already did. Gym sessions don’t matter. “We talkin bout practice” -Allen Iverson

hard sparring sessions are far from practice. You can watch many great gym wars in boxing in mma that are great fights.

who knows what’s going on in this case though and I have no interest in the fight.

Bragging and ego tripping about gym sparring is lame af

Nah it looked to me like Chito chased him down and knocked his ass out with elbows.

I don't like to train with assholes who are trying their best to hurt me either.

A very good point. You’re just practicing, you’re not supposed to beat the crap out of your sparring partner. The wars in the gym hurt longevity more than the wars in the actual fights.

Not trying to be a hater, but I could see a 125er going extra hard to “prove something”. That napoleon complex is no joke. Really any guy with a pride problem though to be fair. I’ve seen some dudes being relaxed and just sparring working on their craft, while others are giving it everything they have because they don’t want to look bad even for a second.

IMO while on the subject of sparring, most people who say “I’ve never lost a sparring session” (not that Pantoja said this, just off topic) are egotistical try hards.

I've sparred with guys that want to go super hard when you're just wanting to - you know - have a sparring session. If someone is going to turn around and brag about it later, then the rules of how hard you're going to go against an opponent in a sparring session should be laid out beforehand. It's weird when you're trying to work out and then all of a sudden your work out partner is trying to take your head off. I know it's fighting but when you're sparring, unless it's explicitly stated, the whole idea is that you're going more easily, pulling your punches and not trying to make your opponent quit. Maybe their situation was different, I don't know. I can't stand sugar Sean but this just seems weak.
