I wouldn't say that was an obvious play even in retrospect. He got the win, but he didn't look good at all in Rd 1. I feel stupid for not loading up on MM more with them fighting in Colorado.

The only way Shamil loses is if he chases him like Werdum/Fedor to the ground and gets subbed.

Shamil is a more well rounded mma fighter. Wrestling is too sharp for it to hit the ground /

Tanon also loses top ctrl against weaker grapplers.

I also think Shamil can keep in standing , win there, and won't be a fish out of water on the ground. Only thing I'd be worries about is a heel hook if there's a crazy scramble.

Yeah stylistic nightmare. Guy is also a sambo fighter. those guys have so much milage in stand up and grappling, sambo is borderline mma.
 
Shamil is pretty violent with the GNP too, which completely changes the grappling.
 
Duojo Banma vs Walter Goncalves.. I didn't tape anything but Duojo Banma is sitting at 3.30. He has 16 MMA fights and is fighting a guy who has never fought in MMA.... Probably worth a small stab at 3.30 unless someone tells me that this Walter dude is a rising star of some sort.

I always dread going against those leglock specialists because they need one opening to tear ligaments in the blink of an eye. Gasanov was dominating til he wasn't.

A bit of both. Gasanov did a lot of good work in the first but got tangled up in the second.

tbf i said it could go like werdum / Fedor, kind of what happened just more like Shamil frooze up, got tangled from the bottom and fell with him. the whole fight was bizzare. I never see a guy freeze up after Tonon threw two naked side kicks. Shamill panicked wrestled. He was the more better stand up and had the grappling to stay up but he fought with poor iq. Bad coaching or maybe the ring affected his performance.

He got lucky that Gasanov is a retard who grappled with him when he didn't need to.

But he's not lucky in that he took advantage of that.
